KOKOMO approximately

My wife and I took a few days off and spent the time in the middle of the Florida Keys. They say it's a great place to fish, dive and eat. We did one of the three. What we saw in our brief visit was opulent and trashy, seemingly untouched and overdeveloped, beautiful and butt ugly.

The moon through the trees was from our first night.

The shot of the chaises on the beach was from the first morning. I know -- it looks like it could be a stock photo.

We stopped here at this place near Blue Hole, on Big Pine Key to see the little Key deer. We saw an alligator and a sleeping turtle. But we didn't see any little deer. These trees were charred as was a lot of the land we saw in the area.

I drove by the pink gorilla a couple times before stopping. It was late afternoon and the light was nice. Just as I framed this. I heard someone shout to me that they really has something for me to see. The guy out of an R. Crumb comic by way of a Carl Hiaasen novel greeted me.

"Where in Massachusetts are you from?" I asked him.
"Philly."
"Can I take your picture?"
"Sure." And he held up his hand. Then he pointed over to the overgrown scrub and pine needles. "See there? A shark."
As I was got back to the rental car, another car pulled into the lot. I pointed with my thumb. "They've got a land shark back there."
"I know." He said as he got out of his car. "I work here."

 End of the day...
